1  JoomGallery 2.x ACL / Backend / Administration / configuration page all white on: 05-12-2014 08:43:46

2  Archive / Miscellaneous / SimplePie errors in PHP strict mode on: 30-07-2014 10:43:47
Thank you very much for this fantastic component. I've been using it on a number of sites for years.

I recently installed a new WAMP server and its default is PHP in strict mode. Just want to let you know that SimplePie is not strict-mode compatible and is generating loads of errors. Maybe there is an update of SimplePie which can be included in the next version of JG.

3  Archive / Installation / Update / update servers xml file can not be opened on: 30-07-2014 10:36:07
Whenever I open the joomla extension manager update page it crashes after a few minutes with this message:

sorry its in Dutch, translation:

If I open the url in a browser it shows the xml. Can it be that Joomla 2.5 can not deal with this xml-extension-set just yet?

JG 2.1.5

I've tried this, but does not seem to have anything to do with this issue. http://www.en.joomgallery.net/faq/general-faq/error-loading-feed-data.html
4  JoomGallery 2.x ACL / Backend / Administration / version checker error, seems to timeout Joomla update on: 09-05-2014 11:39:13
The version checker is not available and seems to time out the Joomla updater.

I've managed to update Joomla via FTP, but the error on the updater page remains. Also after emptying the cache in the extension manager > update.
5  JoomGallery 2.x ACL / Solved Topics: Frontend / Re: show the category images in the slideshow module, but not in the view 'album'? on: 12-04-2012 13:47:33
Thank you! that worked.
6  JoomGallery 2.x ACL / Solved Topics: Frontend / show the category images in the slideshow module, but not in the view 'album'? on: 11-04-2012 17:14:43
I got a couple of categories in a gallery. I used the Joomlgallery module to make a wonderfull slideshow. But when in album view there is the category I created for the slideshow. I want the hide that category 'slideshow'. But when I unpublish it, there are no images in the slideshow module. When I publish the category AND set in the params to be hidden, it does not show in view 'album', but does not show in the module either.

How to show the category images in the slideshow module, but not in the view 'album'.
7  Archive / Migration / Re: 500 Error while attempting migration on: 04-04-2012 09:18:39
I uninstalled and installed again. installed the migrator file again and then the started. It told me:
Quote
There were 1 error(s) during migration. Please have a look at the logfile.
i checked the log and it is full of :
Quote
ERROR   DB error: Unknown column 'parent_id' in 'field list' SQL=INSERT INTO sfgp_joomgallery_catg
which is puzzling because there is a colum parent_id present, and values have been inserted there.
8  Archive / Installation / Update / Re: error on install on: 04-04-2012 09:06:17
I manually added a menuitem in the database, so it shows up in the 'components' menu.
9  Archive / Installation / Update / error on install on: 03-04-2012 18:47:00
I get this install error on a migrated 2.5:

Quote
Another menu item with the same parent has this alias
Error building Admin Menus
and
Quote
Installing component was successful.
but the component is not in the 'components' menu. With a direct link I get the admin-pages.

How to fix this?
10  Archive / Migration / Re: 500 Error while attempting migration on: 03-04-2012 18:42:59
I got this error:

Does anyone know what to do to fix this?

11  Archive / Uploads / Re: JOOMGALLERYUPLOADSUCCESS error on: 23-02-2011 20:04:28
for me resizing the images before uploading solved the prob:

for me this did not work, but changing the size of the images before uploading did.

14  Archive / Uploads / uploads failed. (ftp/java/image/batch) [solved] on: 23-02-2011 20:01:46
I have successfully uploaded loads of images to this server, but all of a sudden I can upload no more.

First I thought maybe the serverspace is full. I checked, that was not the case. To be really sure I uploaded a 50 MB folder with FTP. So no issue with space on server.

then I though it might be some kind of failing memory-reset in java-upload. So I tried the normal image upload functionality and the batch and the FTP-functionality. All fail with these errors:

java:
wjhk.jupload2.policies.PicturesUploadPolicy.checkUploadSuccess(): The string "JOOMGALLERYUPLOADSUCCESS" was not found int the response body

FTP, image upload and batch upload:
Memory limit exceeded. No further processing of the image. Memory requirement:32 MByte (33512395) Serverlimit: 16MByte (16777216)

I searched this forum and found many posts about this. The main answers are:
- try in the Joomgallery config another image processor. ImageMagick / GD2 / GD
- try downsizing your images first, making them lighter so processing takes less memory

I found this article:
http://www.en.joomgallery.net/faq/general-faq/problems-with-the-upload-of-images.html

memory load is determined by the dimensions of the image and its bit depth, rather than by the space it takes up on your hard disk. Say we had the server resize an image of  2272 x 1704 px and a depth of 24 bit (24 bit = 3 bytes), then the result would turn out to be 11 MB of required memory (2272 x 1704 x 3 = 11.614.464 bytes). That's for the resizing alone, to which we'd still need to add the memory required for the JoomGallery scripts (appr.8 MB.). This already gives us around 20 MB (with first formula) alltogether, and if  memory_limit has been set to 16 MB, that's the end of the line for us already.

OK. So I am on a 16Mb shared host. But the wierd thing is, I have already successfully uploaded 20 huge images without problem. It is like hitting an invisible wall. I have tried using the other image processors.

When you run into problems, keep in mind that FTP upload mode of JoomGallery circumvents most of the difficulties that can be imposed by php.ini settings (with the exception of max_execution_time).
Got the exact same error at FTP-upload.  Sad

So I finally got it working again!
(while writing this post, which is why I added 'solved' to the title)   Laugh

I tried with optimizing the images first, making them smaller in size and weight. First I used Photoshop to optimize the jpg's with quality set to '100', which really reduced their size, but still got the same errors. Then I resized the images to max width 1000 pixels (which is nice enough for an enlarged detail image and download) and optimized them (again jpg quality '100'). And then, it worked again!

I checked the original image sizes and it turns out the images I wanted to upload later where way heavyer, about 1.5-2MB. Whereas the other images had been less then 200KB.

I am loving this software, and I really hope that someone will manage to workaround these sort of upload problems.

This works quite differently from e.g. a client side Java applet, which excutes on your machine after it has been downloaded together with the page you requested to view.
So here is an idea. Java could be used to pre-process the images on the local machine before they get uploaded. If that gets integrated into the upload applet, problems are gone. (another idea for the feature request forum, which is locked).

15  Archive / Frontend / detail image & lightbox from category view (inc. template override) on: 23-02-2011 12:11:55
I thought the thumbnails on the category-page were just so small, and clicking through 100 pictures in detail view causes RSI  Wink
So I wanted the detail-images on the category-page and the lightbox option as well.

see here what that looks like:
http://www.desunique.nl/beeld-a-geluid/fotos

I made a template override for that.
download: http://www.pages-and-items.com/downloads/com_joomgallery.zip
unzip and paste the folder com_joomgallery in your templates/template_name/html/

Can these options please be included in a future release?
