1  JoomGallery 3.x JUX / Backend / Administration / Re: Joomla 3.8.12 and JoomGallery Image Manager error message on: 05-09-2018 11:40:32
Hi there,

I'm not sure about the little snippet shown on git-hub, but when I replaced the entire image.xml file it worked! Thank you so much!

Will this be fixed in the main JoomGallery component soon? I don't mind editing, but it would be more convenient to simply download a working version :)

Once again, though - many thanks!

2  JoomGallery 3.x JUX / Backend / Administration / Joomla 3.8.12 and JoomGallery Image Manager error message on: 29-08-2018 12:25:48
Hi there,

Quite a big problem here. I've been running JoomGallery 3.4 successfully for some time now, but having just upgraded to Joomla 3.8.12, the Image Manager now throws a huge error message up whenever I try to edit or add any details. If I try to add a description or edit the alias (haven't tried any other edits) the changes are ignored and following message appears on the Image Manager home page: (please delete the message if it shows too much information in public - I'm unsure)

RuntimeException: Invalid field: cid in /home/sites/uniongallery.co.uk/public_html/libraries/src/Form/Form.php:2076 Stack trace: #0 /home/sites/uniongallery.co.uk/public_html/libraries/src/Form/Form.php(1226): Joomla\CMS\Form\Form->validateField(Object(SimpleXMLElement), '', '2042', Object(Joomla\Registry\Registry)) #1 /home/sites/uniongallery.co.uk/public_html/administrator/components/com_joomgallery/models/image.php(1010): Joomla\CMS\Form\Form->validate(Array) #2 /home/sites/uniongallery.co.uk/public_html/administrator/components/com_joomgallery/models/image.php(247): JoomGalleryModelImage->_validate(Object(Joomla\CMS\Form\Form), Array) #3 /home/sites/uniongallery.co.uk/public_html/administrator/components/com_joomgallery/controllers/images.php(462): JoomGalleryModelImage->store() #4 /home/sites/uniongallery.co.uk/public_html/libraries/src/MVC/Controller/BaseController.php(710): JoomGalleryControllerImages->save() #5 /home/sites/uniongallery.co.uk/public_html/administrator/components/com_joomgallery/joomgallery.php(68): Joomla\CMS\MVC\Controller\BaseController->execute('save') #6 /home/sites/uniongallery.co.uk/public_html/libraries/src/Component/ComponentHelper.php(382): require_once('/home/sites/uni...') #7 /home/sites/uniongallery.co.uk/public_html/libraries/src/Component/ComponentHelper.php(357): Joomla\CMS\Component\ComponentHelper::executeComponent('/home/sites/uni...') #8 /home/sites/uniongallery.co.uk/public_html/libraries/src/Application/AdministratorApplication.php(101): Joomla\CMS\Component\ComponentHelper::renderComponent('com_joomgallery') #9 /home/sites/uniongallery.co.uk/public_html/libraries/src/Application/AdministratorApplication.php(159): Joomla\CMS\Application\AdministratorApplication->dispatch() #10 /home/sites/uniongallery.co.uk/public_html/libraries/src/Application/CMSApplication.php(195): Joomla\CMS\Application\AdministratorApplication->doExecute() #11 /home/sites/uniongallery.co.uk/public_html/administrator/index.php(51): Joomla\CMS\Application\CMSApplication->execute() #12 {main}

The only difference between now and my previous successful edit is the upgrading of Joomla...

Can you help? My huge appreciation if you can :)

Hi there,

Thanks for replying so quickly!

I've just tried playing with the settings after turning dynamic cropping off - I have to say, the thumbnails looked much better being uniform when dynamically cropped.

I take it there's no easy way to apply an rgba colour to that background?

Cheers,

Martin

PS: Not meaning to be cheeky, but while I've got your attention, I love joomGallery, but I just want to add another vote in favour of adding tags or multiple categories per image! :)

Hi there,

In the Configuration Manager, there's an option to pick the hex color of the gallery thumbnail backgrounds. I've tried to override this in the CSS manager and in my own CSS to make it use rgba so as to get a transparent background on the image, but with no success. It's easy enough on the overall thumbnail background, but not the image background itself. I can change the image background itself to any color I like (in the Configuration Manager) as long as it's not transparent - which is what I want.

I've googled this to death, and searched on this forum, also with no success.

Is there a class I'm missing (I've used devtools to try to find it), should this be a component override, or is this somehow simply not possible?

Hope you can help

Perfect! And so simple in execution.

I have no idea WHY it works, I'm just grateful that it does, and to you Mr Music, for supplying the solution. A donation will be with you asap as a small token of my gratitude.

This is not very easy.
A few knowledge of html and php are necessary.

Oh, I appreciate that - but I build site designs by hand in html and css, then integrate them into joomla. While I can't write in php or javascript, I have an understanding of how they work and can usually manage to edit php & js files very successfully. If I knew which documents required changes, and what syntax Joomgallery uses for (for example) a sub-category title replacement, I can usually work with it.

Alternatively, if there was an affordable way of subscribing to Joomgallery to pay for specific custom modifications, I'd be happy to get into that.

That should be possible with a override.
You probably have to overwrite one the files in the folder components/com_joomgallery/views/category/tmpl.

I very much hoped that would be the case - however, I'm not at all sure where specifically to make changes, nor exactly which changes to make; can you advise?

Thank you for taking the time to read and reply to this

Oh yes, I do appreciate that. Sorry - I miss-qualified the problem. It's not the sub-categories, it's the lack of images that are an issue.

However, my problem stands: the categories contain sub-categories which, on the site I've built, require a description, but don't need an image - or at least, not the type and size of image I want to use.

Given that the sub-categories use image links, I'm surprised they don't qualify as images, but the main point of my post was that user Simtay figured out a workaround in Joomgallery 2.x and I'm hoping that someone MUCH cleverer than me can work one out for Joomgallery 3.x

I'm also looking for a way to change the generic 'Sub-Categories' page title to it's attendant category name (as shown in the address bar).

Here's a link to one of the problem pages on the live site - http://janeravenglass.co.uk/galleries/glass

Hope this clarifies

M

The problem is that JoomGallery doesn't seem to automatically allow a description of a category in category view IF it has subcategories. When you add a sub-category the description disappears and you can just see the title "Sub-Categories".

The user Simtay came up with a solution for an older version of JoomGallery, and - not having the necessary skills myself - I was hoping someone else had come up with a suitable similar version of that solution for JoomGallery 3. I've messaged Simtay privately to see if he's come up with a JG3 solution.

Ideally, I'd also like to be able to change the title "sub-categories" to whatever the sub-category actually is, too.

Cheers for reading :)

Someone in a JoomGallery 2 board asked:

"How can I show the description of a category in category view that has subcategories. When you add a sub-category the description disappears and I can just see the title "Sub-Categories". Link: http://www.forum.en.joomgallery.net/index.php?topic=3072.0

They then went on to answer their own question with the following:

"I had to modify a function in joom.viewcategory.html.php because the function Joom_ShowSubCategories_HTML(&$rows) doesn't include the description so I had to get the category id and then obtain the description from the database.

The modified lines (don't need to change the rest of the function and I needed to pass the $cid from joomgallery.php via joom.viewcategory.php to joom.viewcategory.html.php". At the foot of their final post, they showed the code they came up with.

I'm having exactly the same problem in JoomGallery 3 and the above fix doesn't appear to apply. Does anyone have an up to date fix for this issue?

I don't have a live page to show just at the moment, but should do in the next day or two.

Thank you very much in advance.
