Thank you for the latest categories module.  I have a couple of questions...

1. Is there a way to limit the number of characters so that it does not spill over into the next line?

2. How can the div or space between each category be removed or reduced?

Perhaps both of these questions could be a setting in a future release

Thank you for your feedback.

A direct way to shorten the text is not implemented. The module uses the JoomGallery interface and gets the complete html code to display the text and links from this interface. May be some day there will be an option to shorten it.

When you have a look at the backend parameters you will see some options to change the view.
Try to use Show short texts, which removes the word "category".
Try to use Remove CSS for lists to reduce the line height, which I think is in your case the reason for the space between the categories.

When I use the "remove CSS for lists" in my case, it does not reduce the line space between the category text.  It does however remove the dash at the beginning

In my case it reduces the line space because it sets the line height from 180% to 100%.
Without a link to your site to examine your CSS it is impossible to make further suggestions.

Thanks for your help.  Changed the helper.php of the module to reflect
from
Code
. "padding:0.5em 0;\n"
to
Code
. "padding:0;\n"
It works great in FF but not in IE

Thanks again

It looks ok for me with IE 8. Only IE 7 seems to have a problem with the CSS of class .jglatestcat91_clr.

Try to change the code in the modules helper.php (line 245) from
Code
    // class to clear floats
   $css .= ".".$csstag."clr {\n"
       . "clear:both;\n"
       ."}\n";

to
Code
    // class to clear floats
   $css .= ".".$csstag."clr {\n"
       . "clear:both;\n"
       . "height:0px;\n"
       ."}\n";
