I hope this is the right place.

I mainly use wordpress and the nextgen plug in, so I just need to get my head around joomgallery. In next gen you create galleries and can put them anywhere within a post or a page.

For the joomla site I am working on, I have a bunch of images that will go under 4 different main categories, which is fine - but then a bunch of albums, (groups of images taken at different times), so I assume you use a sub-category for that, as I can't find an album facility.

OK assuming that is correct, I want to structure my site to have a main gallery page, with the 4 main categories as sub pages - this is fine, I can see that.

However I want to show a link to all the albums for say category 1 on the sub page for category 1, and again for each of the other 3 categories.

I hope this is clear!

Hi,

you can create menu items to category view for each of the categories in menu manager of Joomla.

Ok great stuff. So I create a page for category 1 = Events.

I have images from 5 different events that I want to show as 5 different albums, either as a text link or as a thumbnail link, on the Events category page.

What is the best way for doing that?

Yes, this is possible.

You have to create a sub-category for each of these events in the 'Events' category for that.

It is possible to create any number of sub-category levels in the gallery (just bounded by your server settings).

Hi thanks for the reply, I do understand what you're saying but that's not what I'm asking.

In Wordpress, the gallery there you create categories and then multiple albums within that category. So you link to the category and that page shows all the albums and you can select the relevant album to look at. That's what I am trying to do here.

The way this seems to be done, I'll either have hundreds of images in one category, or hundreds of individual pages of sub categories.

Do you see what I am after?

Thanks again

Hi,

sorry, I think I don't understand your request completely.

If I'm not wrong the structure in Wordpress Category -> album(s) can be done in JoomGallery with Category -> Sub-Category(ies). So this should be possible in exactly the same way.
What do you mean with hundreds of individual pages of sub-categories? This would only be the case if you added hundreds of sub-categories to a specific category.

Ha ha, it's difficult to put into words, but I'll try again.

I have a main category called Events. I will create a menu joomgallery category link to to show images from that category. If that was it - that would be fine, but we have regular events, and want to show the images we take at those events in separate groups:

Category EVENTS:

Event 1 (10 images) Event 2 (20 images) Event 3 (5 images)

So I want on my Events pages to see x3 separate groups of images. In wordpress those 3 events would go into albums and you would show each album as a separate link on the one page called EVENTS.

I can't see how to logically do this in joom gallery.

Understand now?  Smilewinkgrin

Hi,

if I understand you correctly this should be possible easily in JoomGallery:

  • Go to category manager and create category 'Events' with an empty field as parent category. This way a main category is created.
  • Press 'New' again and create the category called 'Event 1' with 'Events' as parent category.
  • Do the same for 'Event 2' and 'Event 3' again.
  • Go to menu manager of Joomla! and create a new menu item. Ensure that you select 'Category View: Default Layout' as the menu item type. Then, you will be able to select category 'Events' in the slider on the right.
  • After saving the menu item go to frontend and click on the new menu item => You will see a page with three links to 'Event 1', 'Event 2' and 'Event 3'.

Ahh, that sounds logical. I'll try that later on.

Thank you for your patience.  Yes
