Hi everyone...

Ive been using joomgallery for quite some time now for a subscription based website

I have found that several people have been accessing the images manually and perhaps downloading the entire galleries.

Is there a way to stop this?

Hi,

you have to create a file called '.htaccess' with the string 'deny from all' in it for that.

One copy of this file has to be placed in the originals folder you have chosen in tab 'General Settings' -> 'Paths and directories' of the configuration manager and one in the 'Image Path'. Additionally you have to ensure that the option 'Use real paths' is set to 'No' there.

Then it's not possible anymore to call detail and original images directly. They have to be output through the PHP script, so only the users with appropriate access rights can see and download the images.

Please note that this is not possible for the thumbnails. If you want to also protect your thumbnails you have to move the thumbnails directory outside of your domain area of your webspace by using an absolute path as described in the configuration manager. Please note that moving thumbnails outside of the domain area will slow your site down a bit.

This works only with JoomGallery 1.5.7 and higher.

This is exactly my problem... but only in some browser versions. Anyway, I don't know how to create the correct .htaccess file - any help? And I just wondered why the setting to disable the right click menu is not working - it used to. ?? Sure would appreciate any help...

Hi,

this article should be able to help you.

Stopping the possibility to use right click does not prevent users from downloading images.
It isn't implemented in all situations in the gallery, either.
