At some point my Joomgallery installation has broken and it's now impossible to publish categories, either from the front end or backend. As an administrator you can unpublish a category, then click to publish it again, there is a message that says it has been published but in fact it is still unpublished. I can manually change the `published` field in the database to 1 and it appears as published ok, but I can't seem to do this from the user interface.

I have tried a fresh install of the same versions of Joomla and Joomgallery and it works fine, but if I do an sql dump (data only) of my data from the live site and import into the test site the problem re-occurs - so it looks like it's something to do with my data.

I can create a new category from the backend and set it to published but it saves as unpublished, I can't then publish it but I can delete it.

I have run all the Joomgallery maintenance options and there are no errors.

I have about 270 categories off ROOT, a few categories have sub categories.

Joomla vers 3.8.6
Joomgallery version 3.3.4
Have tried under PHP 5.6, 7.0.29  and 7.1

I'm a bit stumped on this one so any ideas appreciated.

are you logged in as a "Super User" or just as "Admin"?

Importing the data from another installation can cause major problems because the necessary asset entries in Joomla! are not present correctly and it leads to permissions problems.

I would recommend the following:
1. Log in as a Super User
2. Edit a top-level category in Category Manager and then press Save&Close.
Can this category be published / unpublished then?
Note: A category can only be published if all parent categories are also published.

From now on there is the support for the JoomGallery here:
